The rise of Martin Erat: Savory Links for this week

Every Sunday, here at Stars and Sticks we are going to try to compile a profile of a player based on various links from the past week.  Today’s player is Martin Erat coming off a great game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Erat was the subject of much speculation due to his demotion to the fourth line.   However, last night he was moved up to the second line and delivered, tallying three helpers on the night.

This was an extremely interesting development given some talk earlier in the week.  CBS Sports was wondering about Erat’s future and whether he would ask for a trade.  Additionally, Capitals Insider was wondering what the Caps plan with Erat was.

Our own Margaret Stuart wrote a piece on this topic earlier this month as well.  As did I, re-evaluting the Semyon Varlamov trade in light of what happened with the pieces.

Katie Carrera of the Washington Post had this great piece which described Brooks Laich, Troy Brouwer, and Erat’s reaction to the line-up change on Friday.

Erat thrived with the additional playing time and was able to translate that into immediate success.  Check out this recap from Fansided on Erat’s performance last night.

Let’s hope that his performance continues and the Caps can build on their performance last night.
