Today is November 1st and it is a new month of Capitals hockey. October didn’t exactly go as planned, but it could be worse. On tap tonight is the Washington Capitals vs the Philadelphia  Flyers – an opponent who the Capitals only won one game against last year. Tonight marks their first meeting of the 2013-2014 campaign – hopefully tonight the Caps can put a W in the standings and start the year 1-0 against the Flyers!

The Capitals called up two players from the Hershey Bears this week, Michael Latta and Dmitry Orlov. Latta, a center, has played two NHL games thus far in his career – 6 minutes of ice-time against the Blackhawks on opening night, and 7 minutes of ice-time against Carolina on October 10th. He currently has no points for the Capitals. Orlov, a defenseman, has not yet played for the Capitals this season, but has 65 NHL games under his belt – 60 of 65 games were played in the 2011-2012 season. []

Katie Carrera, of The Washington Post – Capitals Insider, had a chance to speak with Eric Fehr about the opportunity to play on the first power-play unit in light of Ovechkin‘s injury.

I don’t think they’ll be covering me quite as closely as they cover Ovi

Ovi does his thing out there and I haven’t had the opportunity. He makes it look pretty easy. He’s been doing that for many years. I’m not going to be shooting it like him, I’ll have my own spin on that position and hopefully it works out.
