Trade rumors, you either love them or hate them. If you love them, then you are in the right place – the Washington Capitals have been part of the trade rumor spotlight as of late. More specifically, Martin Erat – who was brought over to Washington via trade with the Nashville Predators last season.
Since Erat’s arrival he has been quite a dud statistically. In the 9 regular season games played last season he had 3 points, 1 goal and 2 assist – not terrible for just being traded and becoming familiar with a new system and teammates. In 4 playoff games he had zero points – which is troubling because the Caps front office brought him in to help spark a deep playoff run.
This season is a similar situation – Erat is under-performing and not bringing much to the Caps as far as points production. In the 14 games played, he has zero goals and 5 assists – he is also a minus 1 in the (+/-) category.
Now there are three questions to answer when discussing trade rumors:
1) Are the rumors true?
2) What team would be interested in Erat?
3) What could the Capitals get in return?
Let’s take a look at each of these questions to find some answers, and or come up with some potential situations that the Capitals could be in.
