The 2014 Sochi Olympics are underway, and the men’s hockey tournament will begin on Wednesday, February 12. Russia, Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States are projected to be top contenders for the gold. Five Capitals players–Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Marcus Johansson, John Carlson, and Martin Erat–will represent Russia, Sweden, the United States, and the Czech Republic respectively.

Each player brings a different set of skills to his respective team, ranging from goal scoring to playmaking to logging tons of minutes. Some players were locks to make their home countries’ teams, while the possibility of others making the cut was less certain.

Without further ado, here is your Sochi Games preview, Washington Capitals style.
