Washington Capitals Draft Prospects: Vaclav Karabacek

We move into the third round of the 2014 NHL Draft and look at a winger that could come in and help the Washington Capitals down the road.  Vaclav Karabacek is a left winger coming from the Gatineau Olympiques.

Karabacek stands 5’11” and weighs in at 185#s.  He is able to play both wings.  Karabacek is a guy that will get into position and will help move the puck.  He will take quick shots while using defenders to his advantage in screens.  His passes are spot on.

Future Considerations, broke Karabacek down a bit and stated that he is a guy that will not be flashy on the ice but yet play a “straight forward” game.

Karabacek will not wow you with creative hands or slick dekes but rather just play a solid straight forward game where he gets himself to proper spots to make a play. Plays in traffic, digs in the corners, has good feet and solid smarts to make things happen when given a chance.

Future Considerations

During Karabacek’s time with Gatineau, he played in 65 games and had 21 goals and 26 assists for a total of 47 points.

One thing that I like about Karabacek and his playing is that he is not afraid to take a hit.  That is an important feature.  This shows that he will head into the corners and dig the puck out.  He will do the dirty work and be a bit scrappy as well.
