Happy Saturday everyone. Just 69 days until the Washington Capitals begin their 2014-2015 season! Here’s today’s news and links about the Washington Capitals!

  • Is there a better way to rank NHL prospects? The MLB has a system of evaluating and ranking their prospects that perhaps NHL should look into. (Litter Box Cats)
  • A look at the top rookies to keep an eye on in 2014-2015. Evgeny Kuznetsov is on the list. (Bleacher Report)

Kuznetsov offered a preview of his immense skill set in 17 games with the Washington Capitals in 2013-14. He’s a great skater with good hands and should be an exciting addition to a new-look Capitals lineup- Bleacher Report

  • Grades for each team during NHL free agency. To skip to the Washington Capitals, just click on the arrow at the bottom until you get to the second to last team. (USA Today)
  • Alex Ovechkin is still the most important player on the Washington Capitals. (Sports Illustrated)
  • The best free-agent acquisition on each NHL team. Joel Ward is listed for the Washington Capitals. (Bleacher Report)

Joel Ward got off to a rough start with the Washington Capitals, but he has delivered over the last two seasons, doing a bit of everything and producing positive results in tough defensive minutes. He’s always done that, of course, but not always while delivering a point every other game or better.  - Bleacher Report

Braden Holtby registered the worst statistical season of his career with the Capitals last year, but there is little reason to think that the goalie will regress… While Holtby and Peters might not be the first names that fantasy managers think of when wanting to draft a goalie, the duo could turn out to be quite useful as Peters could alleviate Holtby’s workload if there is too much stress placed on the starter at any point during the season
