The NHL just held their NHLPA Rookie Showcase. The Washington Captials had two players that were invited out of the 33 invitees. Andre Burakovsky and Evgeny Kuznetsov were the two invited this year amongst other notables such as Aaron Ekblad and Sam Bennett.
The NHLPA started this showcase for the rookies about 6 years ago and look at life as an NHL star and some of marketing and promotional aspects that they could encounter while in the NHL.
While at the showcase the players will sign memorabilia and EA Sports and Upper Deck is on hand to take pictures of their signatures for their upcoming rookie NHL cards. Also part of the showcase is a tour of the hockey hall of fame as well as an EA Sports NHL 15 tournament for the players.
The Capitals had some bragging rights going into the tournament this year as Tom Wilson won it last year for the Capitals. Although this year, both Burakovsky and Kuznetsov lost early in the brackets. This years winner was Chris Tierney, a San Jose Sharks prospect who beat Curtis Lazar, a Ottawa Senators prospect. Maybe next year for the Caps.
This was a good time for the rookies to get one more relaxing time in before the start of camps, which will begin on September 11th for the rookies. The main camps are set to begin around the 18th of September.
