The Washington Capitals are coming off a very disappointing 2013-2014 season that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons. However, after changes on the ice, in the front office, and in the coaching staff, the Capitals look to be back on track to being contenders again in 2014-2015. Because of these changes, several players are going to be in a position to have a breakout season in 2014-2015.

To clarify, I’d define a breakout season as a season in which a player emerges as one of the best at his position after not being viewed in that light before. In other words, there’s no fathomable way that Alex Ovechkin or Nicklas Backstrom could have a breakout season because everybody already views them as one of the best, if not the best, at their respective positions.

Here are five Washington Capitals who will be in a position to have a breakout season in 2014-2015. If they all have breakout seasons, the Capitals could go all the way to the Stanley Cup!
