from the rest of the division. The scramble for first place should be entertaining to watch because all four of the top teams in the Metropolitan Division are playing good hockey as of late. Without further ado, here’s this week’s Metropolitan Division power rankings:

Metropolitan Division Power Rankings: The Pretenders

The Hurricanes are horrible. Right now, they are clearly the worst team in the Metropolitan Division. The scary thing for Canes fans? They will likely getting even worse once they start trading away more of their players. <a href=. (12-23-4). . Carolina Hurricanes. 8. team. 109

85. <a href=. (14-20-7). . New Jersey Devils. 7. team

. Philadelphia Flyers. 6. team. 68. The Flyers have the two leading scorers in the Metropolitan Division in <a href=. (12-14-6)

113. <a href=. (17-17-3). . Columbus Blue Jackets. 5. team

Metropolitan Division Power Rankings: The Contenders

95. The Rangers have been playing extremely good hockey as of late. They were one of the only two teams in the NHL to beat the Washington Capitals in regulation in December. However, the Caps have been playing extremely well too. Such is life in the Metropolitan Division. <a href=. (21-11-4). . New York Rangers. 4. team

(21-11-7). . Washington Capitals. 3. team. 19. The Washington Capitals are playing excellent hockey right now They lost just twice in regulation during the month of December. The scary part? <a href=

. Pittsburgh Penguins. 2. team. 92. The Penguins, after starting hot, have tailed off a little bit thanks to injuries. The reason that they’ve been hanging in there? <a href=. (24-10-5)

106. The Islanders are legitimate contenders in the Metropolitan Division. They are currently tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for first place. They are currently playing much better hockey than the Pens, so they’ve got my vote for first place. My only concern with them is their defense. Their offense is outstanding. <a href=. (26-12-1). . New York Islanders. 1. team
