The Washington Capitals noticed their 13th win on home ice against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday, tying a team record.

Connor McDavid is a pleasure to watch. The 8th wonder of the world, McDavid will soon be the new face of the NHL. The Washington Capitals managed to keep the McDavid-lead Edmonton Oilers however, to only one goal.

The Capitals haven’t just been great at home during their current run, they’ve been unstoppable, outscoring opponents 64-20. Let me do some quick math for you… that’s over three times as many goals as their opponents.

Tom Wilson got the Capitals on the board mid-way through the first period, putting one in past Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot’s glove and off the post.

An awful turnover by the Washington Capitals thanks to some defensive miscommunication lead to a prime opportunity for Edmonton. Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl made the most of his chance, snapping in a wrister and we have a tie game.

The post was the Capitals best friend in this one. Justin Williams scored what would eventually be the game-winning goal with 14 minutes reaming in the 3rd period. Thanks to an amazing feed from Jay Beagle, Williams notched his 19th goal of the season off BOMB of a one-timer.

Riley Barber made his NHL debut for the Capitals Thursday night. The Capitals 6th round pick in 2012, it has been a long time coming for Barber. Barber was paired with Lars Eller and Zach Sanford on the third line, totaling 9:56 minutes of ice-time in his debut. Barber and Aaron Ness were recalled from Hershey after the Capitals placed Burakovsky on IR, Thursday. Ness logged 10:57 of total ice-time, filling in the gaps that Matt Niskanen’s injury and Brooks Orpik’s less-than stellar play left.

The Capitals 13th straight home win ties that of the 2010 Capitals team. While they tied one record, the Capitals streak of scoring 5 goals in consecutive home games ended at 11, tied with the 1970-71 Boston Bruins for the longest in league history.

The Capitals take on the Predators in Nashville Saturday at 5:00 PM. Their first opportunity to break the franchise record will come Thursday, March 2nd against the New Jersey Devils .
