2020 NHL Draft: Washington Capitals picks in all seven rounds
Round 1, Pick 22 Hendrix Lapierre
The Capitas began their draft by trading up with the Calgary Flames from the 24th pick to the 22nd to select Hendrix Lapierre. The Caps only had to give up their third rounder at the 80th pick but would get a pick in the seventh round by trading with the Pittsburgh Penguins, more on that later.
Lapierre played in just 19 games last season due to concussion injuries but he’s can create an impact when healthy. He had two goals and 15 assists for 17 points. The season prior to that he had 13 goals and 32 assists for 45 points.
Round 4, Pick 117 Bogdan Trineyev
The Caps of course weren’t going to let this draft go by without taking a Russian. With the Dynamo Moscow (Ovi’s favorite), Bogdan Trineyev had 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 36 games. He will most likely remian with the Dynamo this season where he already five goals and five assists for 10 points in 10 games.
The Caps needed to take a winger in this draft since they’re already well stocked on centers. That’s what they did with their second pick although they had to wait a couple more rounds to do it, selecting him in the fourth round.
