#2 Fans Opening Night

On Tuesday, April 27, the Caps finally played a home game in front of fans. They got a 1-0 win over the New York Islanders thanks to a snipe from Daniel Sprong 1:29 into the game. It was a special night as it was the first Caps game in front of fans in 419 days.

We caught up with two fans to see what it was like being inside Capital One Arena for the first time since the pandemic. TJ Poole told us:

"“The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect. It’s almost like the fans didn’t miss a beat with not being able to attend games for so long. LETS GO CAPS chants were happening almost every minute of the game. It’s almost like taking a breath of fresh air and being right where you belong. Even being at 10% capacity, it felt like a playoff game.”"

Jenn added:

"“You just had this sense of anticipation in the air once you got inside. Excitement. People laughing and talking. You could hear the excitement in their voices.”"

Even with just over 2,100 fans it sounded like 20,000. Now capacity will be increased to at least 5,000 and if the Caps make it to June that capacity could be full.
