The offseason moment Washington Capitals fans had waited for had finally arrived. Over the weekend we found out the rating EA Sports gave Alex Ovechkin.

No matter what the sport, video game ratings cause a debate and a stir among fans unless of course, your favorite player is ranked more at the top. Two Washington Capitals players already made the Top 50 list for NHL 20 when EA Sports released the first part of the list. We knew when the final 20 player ratings would drop, Alex Ovechkin’s name would be among them.

Ovechkin made it to the top four, which he rightfully deserves. But check out the three names right in front of him. #3 was the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov. Okay, that makes sense.

This next name will not ring well with you if you’re a Caps fan reading this so I apologize. #2 Sidney Crosby. Coming out as number one on the NHL 20 Top 50 list is Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers.

EA Sports made the announcement via Twitter one tweet at a time. Ovechkin’s overall rating is 92 and the tweet mentioning Ovi noted that, “The Great 8 should replicate his real-world scoring with 95 slapshot accuracy and power! Anyone playing as the @Capitals is bound to see Ovechkin on the score sheet! #NHL20“.

Alex Ovechkin voiced his reaction on Twitter tweeting, “I will take it! But next time I will be better”.

Ovechkin and Kucherov each have a 92 rating. Looking at both of their stats, Ovechkin led the league in 51 goals at 33 years old. Kucherov, on the other hand, led the NHL with 87 assists and 128 points while adding 41 goals of his own on one of the best offensive teams in the league last season.

Sidney Crosby recorded 100 points with 35 goals and 65 assists, an 11 point improvement and his best season since 2013-14 but he still wasn’t close to scoring as many goals as Ovechkin despite being two years younger.

Honestly, I still feel like Ovechkin should get more respect across the league and be rated at least in the top three. Maybe put Crosby at four and move Kucherov up one spot.

Connor McDavid is first and it’s no surprise considering the 2015 top pick outdoes himself year after year. He scored 41 goals for the second straight season and the center added a career-high 75 assists and 116 points.
