The Washington Capitals finally headed home after their season-long five game road trip and got a huge win Friday night over the Buffalo Sabres.

The Washington Capitals earned a 6-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres thanks in large part to scoring the first four goals of the night in a span of just over four minutes.

Two of those four were scored by Jakub Vrana. Chandler Stephenson lit the lamp and Brendan Leipsic scored his first goal as a Capital.

Vrana got the scoring started on a breakaway goal at 6:17 off a pass from Tom Wilson.

The Caps doubled their lead with an odd-man, 3-on-1 rush down the ice from Leipsic to Travis Boyd to Stephenson. Tic-tac-toe for Stephenson’s second of the night just 42 seconds after Vrana’s goal.

Michal Kempny got the first of three assists on Vrana’s second goal of the night. It was a cross-ice beauty, a Czech connection. Wilson had the secondary assist.

The Sabres got on the board in the second period with a goal by Henri Jokiharju at 10:40. Wilson answered at 16:53 for his fifth goal of the season.

T.J. Oshie added his eighth goal of the season at 13:43. Braden Holtby stopped 29 of the 30 shots he faced. There are many players we can consider for hero of the game. Here are our top three.
