The Washington Capitals swept their weekend series against the New Jersey Devils up in Newark close out a roller coaster of a month of February. Sunday’s game was a 3-2 victory that saw the Caps get off to a good start and protect their lead.

After surrendering the game’s first goal, Jakub Vrana had a strike on his birthday. The Caps would take the lead in the second from red hot Nicklas Backstrom before the Devils tied it again. But Alex Ovechkin was there to save the day and end his goal scoring drought.

Here are the top 3 studs from the win.

#3 Jakub Vrana

Jakub Vrana has been on fire all season long. After the Devils scored the game’s first goal, Vrana tied it up at 15:39 of the first. Vrana shot it at Mackenzie Blackwood. The initial shot came off his pads and Vrana followed it in for the score for his seventh goal of the season. Tom Wilson and Brenden Dillon had the assists.

It was Vrana’s second straight game that he scored. He also was the first Cap to score on his birthday since Matt Niskanen did it on Dec. 6, 2018. This is the 32nd time this has happened for a Caps player since 1979.
