The Washington Capitals host the Los Angeles Kings and a lot has happened this morning. T.J. Oshie has entered COVID protocols and Joe Snively has been called up. As of now this game will go on as scheduled.

The Capitals defeated the Kings 2-0 on Nov. 17 behind Ilya Samsonov‘s 34 save shutout. It marked the first shutout against Los Angeles since Feb. 5, 2017. The Caps have won five straight games against the Kings dating back to Feb. 11, 2019, outscoring them 18-9 during that stretch.

John Carlson enters tonight’s game with 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) in 30 games and is tied for fourth among NHL defensemen. With an assist against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night, Carlson passed Mike Ridley (547) for eighth on the franchise points list.

Carlson’s 548 points are the most among defensemen with 121 goals and 427 assists. He’s now seven points shy of passing Bengt-Ake Gustafsson for seventh all time in franchise points. Carlson’s 320 points (68 goals and 252 assists) since 2016-17 rank first among NHL defenseman.

Snively was on the ice for morning skate wearing the jersey number 91. Vitek Vanecek starts in goal.

Tom Wilson (upper body), Garnet Hathaway (COVID protocol) and goaltending coach Scott Murray (COVID protocol) were also on the ice. Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Oshie will be unavailable due to COVID protocol.
