For the first time in a week, we can say it’s game day. Tonight the Washington Capitals will travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers for the second time this season. It also marks their first time against the Rangers since opening night which resulted in a 5-1 Capitals win.

The Caps have earned points in 15 of their last 20 games against the Rangers, posting a 13-5-2 record. T.J. Oshie recorded a hat trick in the Caps last visit to The Garden on May 5, 2021. He could be returning to the lineup tonight, we’ll find out at morning skate at 11:30.

No active player has more goals against the Rangers than Alex Ovechkin’s 41 and his 0.61 goals per game against the Rangers ranks fifth in NHL history among players with at least 50 games played.

Ovechkin is eighth in the NHL in points with 62 and fourth in goals with 31. John Carlson is tied for eighth among defensemen with 40 points. He’s also on a five game point streak with a goal and five assists including a five game assist streak.

The Caps are bad at home but brilliant on the road. They’re 16-5-4 away from Capital One Arena this season and have the highest points percentage in the NHL at .720. Washington’s 2.48 allowed goals per game on the road ranks third in the NHL while their 3.44 goals per game rate is tied for fifth. They’re the only team in the NHL to rank in the top five in both respective categories.

Can the Caps shake off the week long break rust and continue their dominance on the road? Here’s how to find out:
