Players are already back in town skating at MedStar Capitals Iceplex and gearing up for a new Washington Capitals season. Each day over the course of the next few days, we’ll breakdown the Caps schedule month by month. We’ll start, of course, with the month of October which is the best month of the year.

We’ll tell you all the games, the exciting matchups and the ones you need to buy yourself a ticket for.

Now as far as games to buy a ticket for, there’s one game that you for sure need to and that’s the first game on Opening Night against the Boston Bruins on Oct. 12. Especially if they bring back players walking the red carpet.

The next night the Caps go up to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs. If there’s any team that makes me appreciate being a Capitals fan, it’s the Maple Leafs.

On Saturday Oct. 15 the Caps will return home to host the Montreal Canadiens and then welcome former coach Bruce Boudreau and the Vancouver Canucks on the 17th.

On the 20th the Caps are back on the road taking on the new look Ottawa Senators. There’s another matchup worth watching and attending if you’re lucky to and that’s Saturday the 22nd against the improved Los Angeles Kings.

From then on the Caps close out the month on the road. They start against the New Jersey Devils on the 24th. That’s a team that I think improved the most within the Metropolitan Division. On the 27th they are at the Dallas Stars. On the 29th they’re at the Nashville Predators.

The month ends with a Halloween night matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh.

Now for some way too early predictions. I see the Caps beating the Bruins on Opening Night but falling the next day to the Maple Leafs as that’s a tough back to back.

They’ll rebound with wins against the Canadiens, Canucks and Senators. They’ll lose to the Kings in overtime. The Devils will also narrowly beat them.

The Caps will bounce back against the Stars, get dominated in Smashville and then beat the Hurricanes in overtime on Halloween.

So doing the math, that’s a 6-3-1 through their first 10 games of the season. Not too bad of a start. Check back here tomorrow as we break down the month of November.
