Martin Fehervary enters a big sophomore season with the Washington Capitals and hopes to avoid the infamous sophomore slump. It’ll be hard to do if John Carlson is off his game and they’re paired together up top but that’s a topic for another day.

Today we’ll look at Marty as an individual. He had a solid rookie season and he looks for even more success this year. He skated in just six games before COVID with one assist but last season had eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 79 games.

I think Fehervary could easily get 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points this upcoming season which is definitely an improvement. And he wasn’t even bad last season, I thought he was pretty good in my opinion.

Recently Fehervary represented the Capitals in Paris at the NHL Europe media tour. He told Tom Gulitti of NHL.com that he had a good summer of training, looks forward to his second NHL season and is feeling strong.

He also said before coming to Paris he was in Greece on vacation.

It’s a big year coming up for Fehervary. The defenseman enters the final season of his entry level contract so the Caps will have some big decisions to make next summer. He hasn’t thought about an extension nor has there been any discussion of one yet.

Gulitti also asked Fehervary about his relationship with Zdeno Chara. Fehervary talked about his impact on the NHL and Slovakian hockey and he doesn’t think Chara is going to retire anytime soon.

I think Fehervary and John Carlson occupy the top pair this upcoming season and the two have a much better season paired together than they did last season. As we saw with Fehervary at the media tour, he has the potential to be an NHL star one day in D.C.
