Bruins vs. Capitals: Date, Time, Betting Odds, Streaming, More
The wait is finally over. The Washington Capitals are back in action for real and the games now count for the next 82 nights. The Caps are determined to put their four straight first round exits in the rear view mirror and focus on the here and now.
That here and now begins tonight against the Boston Bruins and before we even get to the playoffs, as cliche as it sounds, the Caps have to conquer the regular season. Some “experts” predict they’ll finish in the wild card or at best third in the Metropolitan Division. Others think they’ll miss the playoffs entirely.
With this being the last year of head coach Peter Laviolette’s contract, I believe this is truly their last legitimate kick at the can. I’ve written that numerous times throughout the offseason and even noted that possibility whenever I’ve been a guest on podcasts. As scary as that sounds it is also a motivation factor to get the job done here and now.
I’m not the only one who thinks this. Our contributor CJ has a piece on that topic and that article will come out shortly. In the meantime, let’s look at tonight’s matchup.
Dating back to 2017-18, ah the memories, the Caps have won five straight games to open the season which is the longest active stretch in the NHL. The Caps also own the NHL’s longest active point straight in season opening contests which is a 6-0-2 mark in eight season opening games since 2014-15.
Should they win tonight or at least get a point (but please win) that will extend the streak to nine games and they’d become the 10th team in NHL history to have a point streak of at least that length in season opening games, per NHL stats.
The Caps dropped two out of three games to the Bruins last season including splitting the two games at home. This is the Bruins lone game in the District as they’ll play in Boston twice later in the season. But that won’t happen until February.
Can the Caps get the season off on the right foot? Here’s how to find out:
