Weagle takes flight! First look at Capitals Stadium Series jersey

Today the NHL and Adidas unveiled the Stadium Series jerseys for next month’s game between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes. The game is on Saturday Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

For the Capitals it is their franchise record fifth jersey they’ll be wearing this season. It’ll also be the first time their jersey has a weagle design which has been the popular iconic Caps logo since the start of the Rock the Red era.

The game is presented by Navy Federal Credit Union. The game will take place outdoors at Carter Finley Stadium on the campus of North Carolina State University. In addition, the Caps will wear the uniform on Tuesday Feb. 21 vs. the Detroit Red Wings.

Not only is the Weagle on the jersey but it is also plus sized basically taking up the whole front of the jersey almost. The tips of the wings meet the player numbers on the sleeve. It is sure to make it pop on the ice.

The color scheme is white, navy blue, and red.

Hunter Lochmann, the Chief Marketing Officer of Monumental Sports and Entertainment said in a press release:

"“We are thrilled to unveil the 2023 Stadium Series uniform with the fan-favorite Weagle front and center. The bold design allows the Weagle to take center stage as the focal point of the jersey and set itself apart in the stadium atmosphere. We are excited for our players and fans alike to wear these jerseys and represent the Capitals and D.C., starting with the outdoor game on February 18 before being worn on home ice on February 21.”"

The Caps have won each of their three previous outdoor games. First they beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2011 Winter Classic 3-1 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. Then they beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in the 2015 Winter Classic at Nationals Park. They also beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2018 Stadium Series at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland.

A limited amount of Capitals stadium series jerseys will be available at the team stores at Capital One Arena and MedStar Capitals Iceplex beginning at noon at both locations. You can also purchase one online at shop.monumentalsportsnetwork.com or shop.nhl.com.

Overall I think the jerseys are OK. It’s cool the logo on the front will be big which will look neat whether you’re at the game or watching it on TV. Just not too sure of the color scheme. Not shocked they went with the Weagle but I would’ve preferred a D.C. flag.
