Tonight the Washington Capitals host the Chicago Blackhawks for the second and final meeting between the teams this season. In their first meeting on Dec. 13 in Chicago, Alex Ovechkin scored his 29th career hat trick to reach the 800 goal mark and lead the Caps to a 7-3 win.

Washington has a record of 46-43-11-3 all time against Chicago and has earned at least one point in 10 straight home games against the Blackhawks going 8-0-2 dating back to Jan. 10, 2006.

The Caps held a morning skate today and got great news as they’ll be welcoming John Carlson back into their lineup for the first time since he got struck with a puck on Dec. 23. He wore a red jersey at morning skate which was the first sign that he was in.

The caps had all three goalies here with Charlie Lindgren, Zach Fucale and Darcy Kuemper. Kuemper has missed the past two games with an upper body injury.

Trevor van Riemsdyk came back after missing Tuesday’s game due to the birth of his kid.

Carlson got reps on the first power play unit with Alex Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie, Nicklas Backstrom, and Dylan Strome. The second unit was Rasmus Sandin, Craig Smith, Tom Wilson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Conor Sheary.

It looks like Carlson could be pairing up top with Martin Fehervary.
