Washington Capitals Fifth Round Pick: Shane Gersich

In the fifth round, the Washington Capitals drafted a very intriguing forward prospect in Shane GersichI had him ranked as a top 100 player. He is a phenomenal skater who has a high hockey IQ. He was ranked 132nd by ISS. Here’s what the ISS had to say about Gersich:

"Speedy offensive-minded player with great acceleration and the ability to handle the puck at high speeds. Small however a very fast, aggressive, agile, well-balanced and strong skater. He works hard, has good skills. Gersich played limited role for USA at recent U18 Worlds. Has good hockey sense but could stand for some minor improvement in overall understanding and use of open ice. Has very good hockey sense and finishing ability. A capable two-way player that is used in multiple situations and is an asset on the penalty kill. Strong on face-offs. The nephew of Neal Broten is committed to University of North Dakota."

Gersich reminds me quite a bit of Riley Barber. Gersich needs to improve defensively, but his skating ability should definitely help him improve quickly at both ends of the ice.

Grade: B. I feel like Gersich could be a huge steal for the Washington Capitals.
