Defenseman Mike Green of the Washington Capitals will undoubtedly be one of the most coveted free agents this summer. The Washington Capitals defenseman proved that he can stay healthy and that when he’s healthy, he’s an extremely productive player. At worst, few execute passes from the point on the power play as well as Green, as any Washington Capitals fan will tell you.
This season, the Washington Capitals third pairing defenseman proved that he is probably deserving of being of a top four defenseman and possibly even a top pairing defenseman if he can stay healthy. With Green, his health will always be a concern. However, this season with the Washington Capitals, he played in over 70 games, which is a very good sign. Green put up very impressive numbers with the Washington Capitals when you consider that he was a third pairing defenseman.
Many teams will likely court the Washington Capitals blue liner this off-season. And rightfully so: Green’s at worst one of the best offensive defenseman in the NHL when he’s healthy. He did a lot this season to prove that he can stay healthy if used correctly. Green has stated that his decision won’t necessarily be about the money, it will likely be about finding a contender like the Washington Capitals.
