I would absolutely hate seeing Mike Green go from the Washington Capitals to the Columbus Blue Jackets. That would likely torment the Washington Capitals for the next several years. However, I do think that Green would be a pretty good fit for the Washington Capitals’ division rival.

Like the Oilers, Columbus is lacking in NHL-caliber defenseman, specifically top four defensemen. If the Jackets miss out on Cody Franson, Mike Green would be one heck of a consolation prize for ‘Lumbus. They could especially use puck movers. Good thing Green is one of the best puck movers in the NHL.

The Jackets’ power play is already really really good. If they add Mike Green, who has been a huge part of the Washington Capitals power play over the years, their power play could go from really really good to borderline elite. Nick Foligno and Ryan Johansen are no Ovechkin and Backstrom, but you know what? They’re still pretty gosh darn good.

Of course, there is an obvious concern with Green and Columbus. The last thing the Jackets need is another injury prone player. The Jackets, much to the delight of the Washington Capitals, suffered from injuries this season. Green has a history of getting injured, though he did stay mostly healthy this season.

That said, Columbus really isn’t that far off from contending for a playoff spot. It’s probably worth it for them to check in on the Washington Capitals’ most prominent unrestricted free agent.
