Toronto gave them a good push in the third period. Auston Matthews even managed to scare some Capitals fans after his third period goal cut the Caps lead to 4-3. However, Oshie iced the game with his second goal of the night shortly after. Tyler Bozak added a goal with less than 30 seconds left to make it a close one. Washington had a third period goal overturned due to goalie interference. They could have broken down, but they showed impressive resolve to bounce back and hang onto their lead.

Three Stars Of The Game

  1. Oshie got the game winning goal. He also got the Washington Capitals’ first goal of the game. Oshie played a great defensive game as well.
  2. Wilson might have quite literally saved the Caps season with his first goal of the first period. Considering the final score, that’s not an understatement.
  3. Braden Holtby struggled in the first two periods, but he was huge down the stretch for the Washington Capitals. In the third period, he stopped 17 of the 19 shots he faced.
