Washington Capitals: A Look at the Final Six Games of the Regular Season

The Washington Capitals have six more games left in the regular season before the Stanley Cup playoffs begin. Here is a look at each game remaining.

Tuesday March 26 vs. Carolina

First up is the Carolina Hurricanes which is the first of a two game home-and-home series between the two Metropolitan Division foes. The first game of this series will take place at Capital One Arena. This game could very well be a first round playoff matchup between the two. If the season ended today, Carolina would be Washington’s opponent.

Thursday March 28 at Carolina

The Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes meet again, this time in Raleigh where the Hurricanes have built one of the most unique home ice advantages this season. After each win, the team participates in a “Storm Surge” where they celebrate with the win among the fans and do different random things each time. My personal favorite is when they went Duck Hunting after they defeated the Penguins.

Saturday March 30 at Tampa Bay

The hockey world gets exactly what it wants this Saturday night, another matchup between the Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning. After dropping the first game 6-3 and the second game 5-4 in overtime, the Capitals are hungry for a win against their playoff foes in what will be the last meeting between the two and their third meeting in 14 days. If both teams get past the second round, we will see this matchup again in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Monday April 1 at Florida

The Capitals will head to the sunshine state for their third meeting of the season with the Florida Panthers. The Panthers won both games at Capital One Arena, one in a shootout back on Oct. 19 and the other win coming on Feb. 9 in overtime. The Capitals, like their previous game, will look to salvage the season series with a win.

Thursday April 4 vs. Montreal

The Montreal Canadiens come to Capital One Arena in the penultimate game of the regular season. The last time these teams met was in November on the 1st and 19th which saw the Capitals lose the first meeting but win the second game in overtime with a game-winner from Lars Eller.

Saturday April 6 vs. New York Islanders

This one could be for all the marbles. Right now the Capitals, Islanders and Penguins are battling it out for the Metropolitan Divison crown and home ice advantage for at least the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Right now, the Capitals have a one point lead over those teams but these next six games for both teams will be a roller coaster both in the District and on the Island. The regular season finale could practically be renamed the Metropolitan Division championship game if it comes down to these teams with the loser likely facing Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and the Penguins in the first round. Who wants that?
