When the NHL schedule came out, many Washington Capitals fans wondered how they would fare during the first month of the season.

On paper it looked like it would be a challenging month for the Washington Capitals. First they had to open the season against the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues before playing the New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes.

Sandwiched in between was a few home dates that included a loss to the Colorado Avalanche but for very most part, the Capitals showed they could not only play with anybody but their determination in winning another Stanley Cup.

The month of October was capped with their longest road trip of the season and in the final game of the month, the Capitals stand atop the Metropolitan Division with an 8-2-3 record with 19 points.

While the Capitals are off to a hot start just a few short weeks ago they were going through early-season struggles stemmed from losing four of their next five games after winning the first two games of the season.

Then, they turned it around and that turnaround began against the opponent you’ll see them play tonight. Without further ado, here are the top three players to watch.
