T.J. Oshie has had a good season thus far and he had had his best game of the season on Wednesday Night Hockey.

T.J. Oshie scored twice in the Washington Capitals 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins before John Carlson netted the game-winning goal in the third period just minutes after the Bruins tied it.

Oshie not only scored twice, he scored those two goals in the span of 3:30 and while the first one was a slam dunk, the second one could qualify as goal of the year.

First let’s break down goal number one. With the Caps on the power play, Oshie was wide open in front of the net and John Carlson found him. Oshie’s initial blast went off the top crossbar but he followed his shot to rebound it past Bruins netminder Jaroslav Halak.

Now onto the goal the entire hockey world has talked about. Charging up the ice and taking a pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov, Oshie undressed two Bruins defenders, showed excellent puck control and followed through with a backhander past Halak.

Oshie admitted he was playing fast the whole game, particularly the second goal and he explained he felt like his line buddy Jakub Vrana to The Washington Post’s Samantha Pell (subscription required):

"“I felt like I had (Jakub Vrana’s) wheels on the bench. I had to check my skates, make sure there wasn’t a ‘13’ under there. I don’t know. Like I said, I haven’t seen it. It felt pretty lucky for the puck to squeak through.”"

I’m sure by now Oshie has seen the goal. It was an absolute beauty. Trailing 1-0 at the first break, Oshie’s two goals helped keep the crowd into it. In a battle between two Eastern Conference juggernauts, the Capitals came out on top.

Oshie has come a long way since his injury in Game 4 of last year’s first round exit to the Carolina Hurricanes. He now has 13 goals on the season.

Capitals coach Todd Reirden mentioned in the same article:

"“I think the work he put in this summer, working on skill development, talking about how he can score more goals, skating I think is improved and it’s tough to improve skating when you become an older player and I think it’s evident. (Oshie’s goal) for me sums it all up. But he leads the way for our team.”"

Oshie was missed in last year’s playoffs. Now he’s back and better than ever.
