Lars Eller

With Backstrom returning and taking up a top six center spot Eller falls back into his place as the third line center. It hasn’t been the Capitals best line so far this season and you could say the same most of this week. But the guy in the middle, Eller was noticeable pretty much all week.

It wasn’t his most impressive week stats wise. He had just one point in the three games this week, that was a goal against the Lightning in Tampa on Saturday night.

His advanced stats were good, as you’d imagine if he was noticeable all week. He was second in CF% this week behind only Nick Jensen, his number was 63.89% this week. Scoring chances also went the Capitals way when Eller was on the ice, they got 22 chances for and 15 against. The middle of the ice might have been a little more open than the team would have wanted though. With Eller on the ice they had 5 high danger chances for and 6 against.

Eller had some impressive individual stats. He led the team in shots this week with 13, second place had 9, that was shared by Orlov, Alex Ovechkin and Radko Gudas of all people. He also led the team in individual scoring chances with 14. Ovechkin was second in this category too with 12.

Eller was also second on the team in face-off percentage at just over 53%, Nic Dowd was over 56%. Eller won 26 of 49 draws taken. Dowd won 13 of 23 draws.

While he might not have put up a ton of points I still thought Eller was impressive this week. In a week where not a lot of players stood out he was one that did. Thanks to that and his impressive advanced stats it’s Eller who will get a spot on our stars of the week.
