Alex Ovechkin

Of course all eyes will be on Alex Ovechkin tonight as he gets another kick at the can at 700 goals. He needs just two and would love nothing more than to do it in front of the home fans. Many fans paid good money on Saturday and more will likely pay decent money to get a seat tonight to witness history.

Ovechkin played 21:55 on Saturday night and was held to just two shots on goal as the Flyers defense kept him in check. Ovechkin has averaged 0.61 goals per game, ranking fifth in NHL history including an NHL-best 0.59 rate since his 30th birthday. He is also currently tied for first in the NHL with 40 goals on the season. Pretty impressive for a 34 year old.

Ovechkin had a hat trick the last time the Capitals played the Islanders which helped the Caps rally from a 4-1 deficit. That was the game before the All Star break. He likes to put on a show in front of old coach Barry Trotz so it will be interesting to see what he’ll have in store tonight.
