We’re all waiting for the NHL season to resume and for Washington Capitals fans, they’re pondering their potential playoff journey.

That playoff journey for the Washington Capitals will sadly be put on hold and we don’t know when things will resume quite yet. But that doesn’t mean we can ask burning questions and have “what if” scenarios.

If the season ended today, the Caps would win the Metropolitan Division for the fifth consecutive season. The opponent they would draw is… gulp, the Carolina Hurricanes.

I would expect this series to be very close just like the last time with the Capitals coming out on top in seven games. It’ll be a revenge series for our boys in red where the first two games will be split, the Caps will win Game 3 in Carolina in overtime. The Caps would win Game 5 but drop Game 6 but win Game 7 in overtime with Nicklas Backstrom feeding Alex Ovechkin for a breakaway goal.

Over on the other side of the bracket, the Pittsburgh Penguins will edge the Philadelphia Flyers in seven games setting up another Ovi vs. Sidney Crosby second-round duel.

The Capitals will once again edge the Penguins in six games and the games will once again be close. These teams have been evenly matched when they’ve played each other this season and the Caps will once again prevail.

This sets the Caps up in the third round with the Boston Bruins, who will slightly edge the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games. The Bruins boast David Pastrnak who is tied with Alex Ovechkin with 48 goals, leading the league.

The Caps will edge the Bruins in seven games with either Jakub Vrana or Lars Eller scoring the game-winning goal. Book it. Washington will go back to the Finals.

There are many great teams out West and some of those races are very tight for playoff jockeying positioning. I think the one team that will come out on top will be the Colorado Avalanche whom the Capitals will draw in the Stanley Cup Finals.

This will be a fun series with a lot of offense. Sorry Caps fans but you’ll see Andre Burakovsky score a few times. Shouldn’t have let him go.

But Washington will come out on top in six games lifting the Stanley Cup in the rocky mountains. That is my prediction. What are your playoff predictions Caps fans? Let us know in the comments!
