Yesterday we looked at five players we’d want to be quarantined with. Today it’s the coaches turn as we look at many great Washington Capitals coaches of the past.

There have been many great bench bosses that have coaches several exciting Washington Capitals teams. As we wait for hockey to resume we were thinking about which coaches from the past we’d want to be quarantined with.

We chose the best of the best in our five so let’s take a look at which coaches we’d want to be in quarantine with.

#5 Jim Schoenfeld

More from Editorials

Jim Schoenfeld took over for Terry Murray with 37 games left in the season and the team with an under .500 record. They finished with a 39-35-10 record for 88 points and a third place finish.

There’s nothing better than beating the Penguins and Jim Schoenfeld was behind the bench during the franchise’s first playoff series win over their bitter rivals in six games back in the spring of 1994. While in quarantine we would love to hear stories from that series.

#4 Bryan Murray

This coach helped put the Capitals on the map and give them respectability across the league. Bryan Murray helped guide the Caps to their first 100-point season and won the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year during that historic 1983-84 season.

Murray also helped coach the Caps to not only their first ever playoff berth but their first playoff series victory in 1984 as well as their first Game 7 victory in 1988 over the Philadelphia Flyers. We would love to hear stories about what Caps games were like in the 1980’s at the old Capital Centre.

#3 Ron Wilson

Ron Wilson was the first head coach to guide the Capitals to the Stanley Cup Final in 1998. He’ll always be remembered in these parts for that magical spring and it would be fun to reminisce about that improbable run.

#2 Barry Trotz

Barry Trotz not only makes this list in that he’s the first and so far only Capitals coach to guide them to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2018, but also his positive attitude would be contagious during this time as the league waits for the novel coronavirus pandemic to end.

#1 Bruce Boudreau

Given Bruce Boudreau‘s sense of humor and popularity with the media, it would be a crime if he wasn’t included on this list. Not only is he included but he’s number one for that reason alone. Not only that but helping the Caps turn their season around from 6-14-1 to 37-17-7 when Boudreau took over.

He never coached in the NHL prior to that and since then he helped guide the Caps to the Southeast Division title the next three seasons all while making the Caps the team to beat across the NHL.
