Two years ago today, the Washington Capitals Stanley Cup took in a ballgame.

Just two days after the Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup, the team headed to a Washington Nationals game to take in a baseball game and begin a series of celebrations among the team throughout the city.

We all remember June 7th, 2018 but we don’t blame you one bit if you hardly remember June 9, 2018. One day prior the team landed at Dulles Airport. Once the Stanley Cup landed with them, it got a tour of the city and it was like the players were living their best life.

First, the Cup went to the popular Arlington bar Don Tito where Ovechkin came downstairs with the Stanley Cup to thunderous applause on Friday night. Then on Saturday before a 1:05 first pitch, the Cup made it’s way to Nationals Park where Alex Ovechkin threw out the first pitch.

He actually got two chances because well, he was a Stanley Cup champion. His first pitch was pretty bad, but thankfully not 50 Cent bad. His second pitch, behind cheers from the crowd, all decked out in red, thankfully made it to Max Scherzer’s glove.

After the ovation from the big crowd at Nats Park, the team took the Cup to their private suite to take in the rest of the game and went on to drink from it… A lot. As they kept drinking they raised it up to the delight of the fans all decked out in Nats and Caps attire.

During the baseball game broadcast, MASN’s Dan Kolko came to the suite to interview the players and instead of clear answers to the questions the whole team sang “We are the champions” but it’s all good. This was their day and they deserved every minute of it.

Since the game was an afternoon affair, the team had the rest of the day to party in the city and they went over to the Georgetown Waterfront to take a dip in the fountains. Afterward, a number of players wanted some ink to commemorate the championship win. Among them were Andre Burakovsky, Jakub Vrana, and Brett Connolly.

Once they got their tattoos it was on to Cafe Milano to get some grub. Then the Cup made it all the way back to Ovechkin’s house because if you’re gonna tour the city that earned you, you might as well crash at the team captain’s house. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful day for the city.
