There is something different about T.J. Oshie that I feel many people have not realized.

It is minor, I suppose, but I figured that I would see more people discussing it on Twitter or some other social media platform. There have been a couple, but not enough. Upon realizing that nobody was going to bring it up, it appears as though that obligation has been bestowed upon me.

I must yield this torch that will light the way for so many others. Now, the way I’m speaking, you would think I am about to say that I have some dirt on Oshie or there is something wrong with Oshie, but this isn’t the case. In fact, what I’m about to say holds little to no value. However, it is something I feel is worthy of a discussion. This thing I am alluding to is, of course, T.J. Oshie‘s jersey collar.

Just look at this. Look at how big the neck hole in his jersey is. That’s right…T.J. Oshie cuts the collar out of his jersey. Why does nobody talk about this? It’s bizarre. I haven’t seen one other NHL player doing this, so you would think this would be something worth discussing when talking about Oshie. That gaping neck hole asks so many questions, and I fear the answers may be lost down the bottomless pit of that fabric tunnel.

Why Would He Do This?

One question that immediately comes to mind is: Why would he do this? Well, without actually knowing the definitive reason, one answer comes to mind. It may not be as interesting as other possibilities, but this one makes the most sense to me. Are you ready? Phew…T.J. Oshie has a crazy thick neck.

I don’t know if you guys have ever noticed this, but whatever Oshie lacks in height, he makes up for in being built like an oak tree. The guy is just as solid as they come, and one way you can tell is by looking at how thick his neck is.

I am not lying, just look at how thick it is. Compare this to someone like Jakub Vrana.

Like the guy is just well built. This is probably why he is able to truck guys who try to hit him when he is standing still.

My personal opinion is that this is the reason why Oshie does it. In all honesty, this just seems like the only solution that makes any real sense. These new Adidas jerseys with the unique collars must be uncomfortable on his neck. He took matters into his own hands. His solution is simple, yet elegant because — as I mentioned — nobody has really even noticed. Maybe one day I can sit down and ask him because for some reason I am just dying to know the answer.

Until that day, we remain in the dark until a light is shone upon this issue. T.J., enough is enough. Quit leaving us in the dark on the important issues. We demand answers. We deserve answers.
