Washington Capitals Draft: Jacob Perreault is a prospect worth trading up for
In case the Washington Capitals were to trade up.
If the Washington Capitals were to trade up in the draft, they should go for center Jacob Perreault. Draft Site has him selected by the New York Rangers at 22nd overall. The Rangers also have the number one pick and are sure to land Alexis Lafreniere. The Caps have the 25th pick and Draft site has them taking Mavrik Bourque.
In 2016-17 he was on the 14U Chicago Mission AAA team. That season he scored 15 goals and added seven assists for 22 points. The next year he leveled up to the 16U and had 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points.
In 2018-19 he began to breakout in the OHL for the Sarnia Sting. In 63 games, Perreault scored 30 goals and had 25 assists for 55 points. He was even better this past season. He had a breakout season with 39 goals and 31 assists for 70 points in 57 games.

Mike G. Morreale of NHL.com said, “He possesses an impressive offensive skill set with good vision and ability to make plays off the rush or with accurate passes in the offensive zone.”
Kevin Armstrong of The Hockey Writers also had praise for him saying, “The son of a long time NHLer, Yanic Perreault, Jacob is an offensive threat who in his rookie year was up there with Byfield, Rossi, and Perfetti. He has been stuck on a horrible Sting team yet still been able to shine without much help around him.”
Sam Conentino of Sportsnet added, “Another fascinating player in this draft class, whose best trait is goal scoring. Yet there are question marks about his play away from the puck.”
Although this is a good prospect it is highly unlikely the Caps will trade up in this draft, especially the first round. They may draft in later rounds and trade up. They might need a third round pick since they’ve given them away like candy during trades.
Either way, it’ll be an interesting draft coming up and it will be good to have hockey in October after the Stanley Cup is presented and awarded. The Dallas Stars are in the finals and the East is still being decided between the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning.
