3 TV shows for Washington Capitals fans to watch.
The Washington Capitals season is over and soon enough the Stanley Cup will be awarded to either the Dallas Stars or Tampa Bay Lightning. When hockey season ends, it begs the question, what do we do now?
Thankfully there are some great TV shows to binge watch. Some of them even have hockey themed episodes. We’ll take a look at some of them in this post.
The NHL Draft will take place on Oct. 6th and the start of free agency is Oct. 9th. There will be coverage of both from this website and from several TV shows, news outlets, and other fan sites.
What will happen in that dry period between the last Stanley Cup game and the draft will be the time to start binge watching these shows that will be mentioned. Once free agency dies down and we’re waiting for another hockey season, we’ll have even more time to binge watch our favorite TV shows.

#3 How I Met Your Mother
This is my favorite sitcom of all time. The series is about Ted Mosby in search for his forever love while he tells his kids the story of how he met their mother. Those poor kids, it was a long story.
We also meet his friends Marshall and Lily as well as ladies man Barney Stinson. We also meet Robin Scherbatsky, a reporter from Canada, who loves her hockey! We find that we relate to Robin in the show with her love for the game. There’s several hockey references throughout the show when it comes to Canada.
In Robin’s early life, her father was disappointed in that he wanted a son. The dad named her Robin Charles Scherbatsky Jr. and Robin mentions that she was treated like she was a dog.
Robin has a wealthy family and you have to have a lot of money to buy hockey equipment. Robin would join the Pee Wee hockey team in her youth but when she got caught kissing a teammate, the father decared that he “had no son”. Poor Robin.
We learn in one episode that she’s a big fan of the Vancouver Canucks and even has a jersey.
#2 The Simpsons
The Simpsons is a classic cartoon that has been around since the 1980s. It’s the longest running show on TV. There was one episode that was hockey themed in the sixth season and eighth episode called “Lisa on Ice”.
In the episode, Lisa discovered that she possesses a skill for ice hockey and then a rivalry between her and her brother Bart ensues. The episode begins with Principal Skinner gathering students at an assembly to announce which subjects they are failing. Lisa is a smart kid who is a straight A student so she was shocked when she found out she was failing gym class.
She made a compromise with her gym teacher that she will get a passing grade if she joins a sports program outside of school. Later that night the family watches Bart’s hockey game. Bart plays for the Mighty Pigs. After the game, Bart makes fun of Lisa’s poor sports abilities and used his hockey stick to pelt her with litter.
After watching Lisa deflect litter and catch hockey pucks Apu, the coach of the Kwik-E-Mart Gougers, named her the starting goalie. Lisa excells at goalie and leads her team to the best season ever.

#1 Seinfeld
Seinfeld is number one for a lot of reasons but the biggest reason I ranked the sitcom at number one is their hockey episode is one of my favorite TV episodes of all time. It’s called “The Face Painter”.
The Face Painter is the 109th episode of Seinfeld and the 23rd episode for their sixth season. In the episode Jerry, Elaine, Kramer and Elaine’s boyfriend David Puddy go to two Stanley Cup playoff games between the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Puddy is a Devils fan and he brought his passion to both games.
Puddy painted his face for the first game and he behaved very rowdy behind the glass. Afterward a car almost ran into him when they were walking home and a priest happened to be driving the car, and Puddy scared him to the point where the priest thought he saw the devil.
Elaine didn’t like that he painted his face and Puddy’s reasoning was this:
“Well ya know, support the team.”
The second game, Puddy was a man of his word. He didn’t paint his face but opted for body paint instead. He and his buddies spelled out Devils at the game and the unfortunate part for Jerry and Kramer is that they had to partake in it to just to go to the game.
