The Washington Capitals have the NHL Draft in a few days.

The Washington Capitals may be in win now mode but that doesn’t take away the importance of stocking up on prospects for the future. That’s how they’ll approach this year’s NHL Draft which is set to take place on Tuesday night.

There are a variety of things they need in this year’s NHL Draft to help with their future. Many of their prospects have starred with the Hershey Bears while others are still waiting for their chance, like Connor McMichael.

McMichael was the top draft pick last year and the number one prospect in the Capitals pipeline. He continued to have success after his draft selection with the London Knights and even helped Team Canada to the gold medal in the World Juniors.

The Caps are well stocked with forwards, especially at the center position, so it may still be a few more years until McMichael dons the Capitals sweater. Unless of course he impresses the coaches at training camp and gets a roster spot.

So now that we talked about the highlight of last year’s draft class, let’s dive into the top 3 needs for the Capitals as they enter draft week.
