The 2020 NHL Draft is finally here.

Tonight dreams will come true. Young players from across the globe will find out which team they’ll be suiting up for. Your Washington Capitals are picking 24th in this year’s NHL Draft. Here’s how to watch the event as it all unfolds.

The Caps will have five picks in this year’s NHL Draft. The second round through the seventh will be on Wednesday. Last year the team selected Connor McMichael with their 25th pick. They hit a home run with that selection and they’ll hope to do the same this year.

What the Caps need in this draft is another forward that will one day complement McMichael or play on a line with him someday. They’ll likely take a left wing or a right wing. But one thing’s for sure. They’re going to take the best player available.

More from Draft

Date: October 6, 2020 Round One, October 7, 2020 Rounds 2-7
Time: 7 p.m. (10/6 Round One), 11:30 a.m. (10/7 Rounds 2-7)
TV Broadcast: NBC Sports Network (10/6), NHL Network (10/7)

In the grand scheme of things, the Caps should avoid drafting a goalie. They already have good goalies in the system and already are looking at potentially adding a veteran backup. Maybe Henrik Lundqvist.

One player they could draft is left winger Lukas Reichel. He could make an impact down the road and complement McMichael. The two can rack up a lot of goals together. He had 24 points with 12 goals and 12 assists with Eisbaren Berlin of the DEL.

Maybe they could select Jacob Perrault if he falls down the draft board to their lap. I doubt they’ll trade up or down but who knows what’s inside the mind of Brian MacLellan. With the Sarnia Sting, Perrault scored 39 goals and added 31 assists for 70 points in 57 games.

Whatever the Caps do, we’ll be intrigued either way. Enjoy the draft.
