Our final Washington Capitals mock draft before the big event.

Tonight is the first round of the NHL Draft. The 2020 NHL Draft will be held virtual, making this a completely new experience for players, teams, fans and writers. The Washington Capitals hold five picks and will be on the clock with the 24th pick tonight that is unless they make a trade.

Here’s assuming the Caps don’t make a trade and use all five of their picks. What this slideshow will do is break down each pick by pick with our prediction on which player the Caps will select. We’ll see if we’re accurate or not over the next two days.

Last year the team selected Connor McMichael in the first round and he had a killer season with the London Knights registering 102 points in 52 games with 47 goals and 55 assists. The Caps used their second pick to select Brett Leason, who just finished his first professional season with the Hershey Bears. He recorded 14 points with three goals and 11 assists.

The Caps used their third pick on Aliaksei Protas, who recorded 80 points with 31 goals and 49 assists with the Prince Albert Raiders. Who will the Caps select in this year’s draft? Let’s find out.
