Grading the Washington Capitals 2020 draft picks.

The Washington Capitals took five players in the 2020 NHL Draft and some had cool names, names we haven’t seen this cool since the team drafted Reggie Savage in the 1980s. Hopefully these guys will have success in the big leagues but it will be a while before we see any of them on NHL ice. Even so, with the draft officially in the books it’s time to grade Brian MacLellan’s picks.

We’ll grade them based on their stats and what we think they’ll bring to the Capitals in a few years and the Hershey Bears. The draft day started with some sad news and a big blow to the Capitals defense.

The team announced that Michal Kempny will miss six to eight months due to a torn Achilles. A few minutes later the team re-signed Brenden Dillon.

Then it was draft night and the Caps continued to make noise by trading up to land Hendrix Lapierre. And thus began writing Hendrix and checking my spelling to make sure I’m not saying Henrik because of a certain goaltender the Caps are rumored to sign today.

Before we worry about that, let’s grade our draft picks.
