Round 5, Pick 148 Bear Hughes

He’ll be a fan favorite in Hershey before he even plays a game there. Told you this draft had cool names. This past season Bear Hughes had 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points in 61 games with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. The season before that he had 41 goals in 46 games for the Spokane Braves of the KIJHL along with 25 assists for 66 points.

Hughes is literally, no pun intended, a bear on the puck. He has the strength to win battles and has the agility to misdirect defenders. Great pick by the Caps. Grade: A

Round 6, Pick 179 Garin Bjorklund

The Caps broke off the forward trend by selecting a goalie in the sixth round. The 2019-20 season was Garin Bjorklund‘s first full season with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL. In 28 games played he had a 2.91 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. He has the confidence of a goalie and isn’t afraid to make the big glove save. Another investment into the future on the goalie front. Or maybe not. Who knows? Grade: B

More. Washington Capitals select Oskar Magnusson with final pick. light

Round 7, Pick 211 Oskar Magnusson

Oskar Magnusson was acquired in the seventh round after the Caps swapped their seventh rounder next year with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He had 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points. The fact he was acquired from Pittsburgh makes him a steal. Grade: B.
