#3 The forward lines must click

One way for the Capitals to have another championship season is that the forward lines have to click and they hope that things are well set on that front. Let’s take a look at the forwards from the top six to the bottom six.

The top line will feature Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson. Ovechkin had a killer season last year with 48 goals as he continues to chase Wayne Gretzky’s record. If his numbers start to decline which we hope not, it’ll be up to Kuzy and Willy to step up their game.

Wilson has the potential to be a 25 goal scorer. Kuznetsov will look to regain the form he had on that 2018 championship team where he was simply unstoppable.

The second line features Jakub Vrana, Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie. All three are 20 goal scorers easily. Vrana could become a 30 goal scorer and T.J. Oshie has reached that number as well. Backstrom continues to be one of the greatest playmakers in the league.

The third line boasts Carl Hagelin, Lars Eller, and Richard Panik while the fourth line is Daniel Sprong, Nic Dowd and Garnet Hathaway. It’ll be very important for these lines to click and not to have any cancers on the team like Brendan Leipsic last year.
