3 long term contract extensions for the Washington Capitals.

The Washington Capitals have their team mostly assembled for next season. This post will look into the future and talk about which three players need long term contract extensions. Before we talk about long term, we need to talk about the most important contract extension that’s coming up as well.

Alex Ovechkin will be in need of a new contract when next season is up but his deal is likely to be on the short term side in the neighborhood of three years and likely an average annual value of $10-12 million a year.

Ovechkin will be due all the money he wants and Ted Leonsis and Brian MacLellan will likely pay the man what he asks for. At least I would if I were them.

Ovechkin wants to retire a Capital and break the great one’s unbreakable record. He has all the potential to do it but let’s hope this pandemic ends and stops shortening seasons so he can get there.

Now let’s talk about players that need a long term contract extension, likely five or more years. These are young stars on the rise with the potential to be an impact on the ice.
