#3 Jonas Siegenthaler

The most recent roster move the Capitals made came on the re-signing of defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler to a one year deal worth $800,000. The team likes the young blue liner and he will likely get a good contract if he has a solid season this upcoming year.

The 23 year old was brought back to an already crowded blue line corps. He entered this offseason as a restricted free agent with no rights to arbitration but was given a qualifying offer along with prospect Shane Gersich.

Last season, Siegenthaler’s cap hit was $714,166 and he played in 64 games recording two goals and seven assists. The Caps will be relying on Siegenthaler to step up with Michal Kempny’s injury just like they did in the playoffs in 2019. The defense will have a much different look.

Expect Siegenthaler to anchor the bottom pair with Trevor van Riemsdyk or Nick Jensen, depending on who beats who for that spot unless the Caps decide to move Jensen. On the second pair will be Dmitry Orlov with Justin Schultz. Up top is Brenden Dillon and John Carlson. Dillon was recently signed to a four year deal worth $15.6 million. Schultz was signed to a two year, $8 million deal.
