The top 3 studs from last night’s Washington Capitals win.

The Washington Capitals got their season off to a good start with a 6-4 takedown of the Buffalo Sabres. These two teams will meet again tonight. Before we take a dive into that game, let’s take one last look at the season opening win.

These three players rose to the occasion and helped the Caps to this big win in a payback game before the hockey world shut down last season. Let’s look at the three I’m referring you to.

#3 Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin made this list not for goal scoring but for sharing the puck. That’s right. Ovechkin assisted on the first two Caps goals of the night. The first one came to his linemate Nicklas Backstrom. His second came on a shot that was rebounded in by T.J. Oshie.

Ovechkin needs to score tonight if he wants to get his chase towards Wayne Gretzky’s record underway. He almost had one last night. Ovechkin has 33 career goals and 53 career points against the Sabres. Ovechkin’s two assists last night were his 363rd multi point game. That’s good for second in the NHL since his debut in the 2005-06 season.

Remember, I predicted he would score 39.
