#2 Brenden Dillon

Dilly Dilly! We knew he was going to score a goal eventually and he did exactly that, scoring his first as a Cap on a shot from way downtown. Brenden Dillon was paired on the second defensive pairing with newcomer Justin Schultz.

In the third period, Dillon dropped the gloves with Jake McCabe. It was a pretty even match but I think Dillon had the edge.

Keep an eye on Dillon tonight as he will play in his 600th career NHL game. 439 of those games were with the San Jose Sharks, 149 were with the Dallas Stars and so far under his belt he’s played in 12 games for the Caps.

Dillon enters tonight’s game on a 207 consecutive games played run which is the eighth longest streak among defensemen. He will become one of just three active undrafted defensemen who have played at least 600 games. The other two were Andy Greene with 933 games and Mark Giordano with 893 games.

Dillon told the media via Samantha Pell of The Washington Post (subscription required):

"“Just from the first day of training camp I think our message for us on the back end and even for the forwards is to get more pucks on net. We had a couple other chances for most of the game on the back end. We were getting pucks through and trying to create some second-chance opportunities and on that one just a big faceoff win and trying to get it on net there.”"
