#1 Play a complete game

For the Caps to have ultimate success tonight against the Bruins, they need to play a complete 60 minute hockey game. It is something we haven’t seen all season. The good news is they know how to get off to a good start. The second period has been a weakness all season except for the five goal barrage against the Islanders. The third period can be questionable.

Through January 30, the Caps have scored 34 goals on the season which is the second most in the NHL. Their 25 goals scored at five on fvie also rank second in the league. The Caps have scored 11 goals in the first period which is the second most in the NHL behind the Vancouver Canucks with 12.

Despite having bad second periods they still lead the NHL with 16 second period goals. That is in large part to that five goal rally they had against the Islanders.

Here’s another wild stat via the game notes, the Caps have only trailed for 46:15 minutes in their nine combined games which is the lowest total in the NHL among teams with at least seven games played. As long as they control possession and control the game from start to finish they should be golden.
