#1 Power play

A major strength of the Caps this roller coaster season has been their power play. For success against the Penguins, it has to continue to click every chance they get. And it can be done. In Sunday’s win against the Devils, the Caps power play lit the lamp during three of their four goals. Two of them were scored by T.J. Oshie while the third was scored by Alex Ovechkin.

According to Mike Vogel of WashingtonCaps.com, the Caps haven’t gone more than two games without scoring with the man advantage. The Caps have scored at least one power play goal in 11 of their 17 games. In three of those 11, they scored on their lone opportunity.

Despite the power play being good, they struggled against the Penguins so far this season. They went 2-for-15 in those four games in Pittsburgh. The Penguins power play attack meanwhile is near the bottom of the league, ranked 25th with a success rate of 14.9 percent.

The Caps are tied for first in the power play with the Toronto Maple Leafs with a success rate of 33.3 percent. Their three goal performance played a large part in them staying up top.
