Although the Washington Capitals lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, the game confirmed one thing: the Caps jerseys are the best in the league. Last night they finally debuted their reverse retro jerseys and on the ice, they looked even more straight fire than they do in stores.

Last night marked the first time since 2003 the Caps wore the screaming eagle on home ice and the first time since 2007 they wore the screaming eagle in a game. It is all in the details.

The “Screaming Eagle” preying in the downward diagonal direction evokes the energy, power, and speed of an eagle attacking in all its glory. The Eagle was selected due to it being the national bird of the United States and an American symbol.

It is a classic design with a modern twist. The original blue, black and bronze color scheme was reimagined to red, white, and blue the patriotic colors of the flag. The Caps are the first time to include their team name on the waistband in the 1990s.

On the shoulders is the Capitol dome patch. It is the Capitol building in front of two crossed hockey sticks. The logo was completed with two stars in the background and a hockey puck in between the blades of the sticks.

The Caps will be wearing the reverse retro jerseys three more times this season. Those dates are: March 9 vs. the New Jersey Devils, March 16 vs. the New York Islanders, and March 20 vs. the New York Rangers.

The screaming eagle reverse retro isn’t the only fire the Caps are rocking this season. The traditional home reds and away whites are pretty nice too. Those came out in the 2007-08 season to mark the beginning of the “Rock the Red” era.

The third jerseys they wore the last two seasons were modernized versions of the red jerseys the Caps had in the 1970s and 80s and part of the 90s. The problem with them (although they look nice) is the Caps kept losing in them last season leading the team to retire that jersey altogether.

Taking it’s place, the Caps unveiled a new third jersey recently which is navy blue with the W. The middle of the W if you look closely symbolizes the Washington Monument. Like the reverse retros in December, the navy blue third Caps jerseys are also bestsellers.
